Robert Schimmel is a stand-up comedian who often appears on on The Howard Stern Show. Schimmel spoke about his battle with cirrhosis of the liver on the show on January 28, 2010 and said that he is waiting for a liver transplant. In 2000, Schimmel was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He underwent extensive chemotherapy treatment which sent the cancer into remission.
Schimmel was arrested on April 2, 2009 for allegedly beating his wife at the time, Melissa. He was held at the Los Angeles Detention Center on a $50,000 bail. Life Since Then is a Showtime special featuring Schimmel that was first aired on January 14, 2009. The title refers to what Schimmel calls his own personal "d-day", June 5, 2000. That was the date when he was diagnosed with cancer.
