Robert Palmer

Categories: Entertainment
  • British rock, pop and blue-eyed soul singer/songwriter Robert Palmer worked as a successful solo artist from the mid-Seventies through the mid-Eighties before teaming up with Duran Duran's guitarist and bassist Andy and John Taylor and accomplished session drummer Tony Thompson to form The Power Station in 1985.

Palmer resumed his solo work right on the heels of the Power Station's massive MTV success and immediately scored again with the release of one of the video network's most iconic clips, "Addicted to Love."

  • An MTV Icon

The concept for the video for "Addicted to Love" was so simple—place Palmer and band on a small soundstage with a colorful backdrop and have them perform the song. The genius move, however, was substituting gorgeous, statuesque women in identical short black dresses, jet black schoolmarm hairdo's, and the fullest, reddest lips ever seen on film for the band. The rest is MTV history.
