  • Robert Mulligan was an Oscar-nominated director most well known for the films To Kill a Mockingbird and Summer of '42. Mulligan has directed numerous award winning casts throughout his career.   • Directorial Career

    Robert Mulligan began directing films as early as 1948 while he was employed by CBS. After directing The Moon and Sixpence in 1959, which was a made-for-television picture, he was nominated and won an Emmy Award for Best Director. His entrance into the silver screen began with Fear Strikes Out and gained great success with To Kill a Mockingbird, which head star Gregory Peck won an Oscar for Best Actor and Mulligan was nominated for Best Director.

    In the following years, Mulligan went to gain numerous nominations from the Directors Guild of America and the Golden Globes. His highly acclaimed Summer of '42 marked the successful run of the director's career. Various films followed with his final project being Reese Witherspoon's first film, 1991's The Man in the Moon.
