Robert Mario De Niro, Jr. is an American Actor, Director, and Producer. To many, he is considered one of the greatest film actors of all time. He quit school at the age of 16 to pursue acting and studied under Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg. [1] He attended the Little Red School House in New York City which was established in 1921 and regarded as the city's first progressive school. The school believed in experimental education through projects, classes and field trips with a lot of emphasis on art, drama, music, filmmaking and photography [2] Mr. De Niro later was enrolled by his mother at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art in New York which was a division of The School of Performing Arts
Robert DeNiro's first film role was in the 1963 film, The Wedding Party, when he was 20 years old. The film was not released until 1969. De Niro is a method actor and will include whatever tactics he feels is necessary to get the other actors in the film to give their best performances. For instance, during the filming of The King of Comedy with Jerry Lewis, he directed some anti-Semitic epithets at Lewis in order to enhance and make authenic anger which was to be demonstrated by the acting character. According to a Peoples Magazine article, Lewis recalled that he forgot about the film cameras and was only going after Robert DeNiro's character in the film. [3]
