Robert Carlyle is a Scottish actor. After graduating the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, he played the television role of the title character in Hamish Macbeth, a British police series. He soon began reaching an international audience with his performances in the Academy Award-nominated Scottish film Trainspotting in 1996 (as Begbie) and the Best Picture-nominated 1997 film The Full Monty as an unemployed steel worker who becomes an amateur male stripper.
Carlyle's other film credits include 28 Weeks Later (the sequel to the 2002 pseudo-zombie film), the James Bond film The World is Not Enough, Eragon, and The Beach.
