  • Canadian professional hockey player Rob Blake currently plays for the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League. Blake signed with the Sharks as a free agent on July 3, 2008.
  • Early Career

    Blake began his career in the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 1985. He then attended and played for Bowling Green State University for three years, starting in 1987. Blake was drafted 70th overall in the 1988 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. He made his NHL debut at the end of the 1989-90 season, playing four regular season and eight playoff games with the Kings. In 1994, Blake was selected for his first of six NHL All-Star Game appearances. Just two years later he was named captain of the Kings, which he served as until 2001. 1998 was a exceptionally successful season for Blake, and he was awarded the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the top defenseman in the league.
  • Recent Years

    On February 21, 2001, Blake was traded to the Colorado Avalanche. Just months later he helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup Championship. Blake went on to represent Team Canada in the 2002 Winter Olympics, taking home the gold medal. He continued with the Avalanche through the 2005-06 regular season. On July 1, 2006, Blake re-signed with the Kings, and was again named captain.
