Riverside is the largest city located in the Inland Empire, East of Los Angeles. Riverside is not only the largest single city in this region of Southern California, it is also smack dab in the middle of the IE. This location is what helps make Riverside such a rich city of the arts.
Riverside is incredibly successful in a large part to do with its climate and location. Everything is about an hour away. During the winter, ski conditions are up the hill in big bear and mountain high, while the beach is only an hour away in the other direction. With mild winters and hot summers, Riverside is the perfect location for people who do NOT like wet conditions.
Los Angeles and Orange county are both an hour away (less if you drive fast with no traffic). Day trips into these locations are easy and part of what makes the city so great.
Riverside is also known for its great public services. It is one of the best in the region when it comes to public services such as schools, programs for children and support for the less fortunate.

History of Riverside
The first orange tree was planted in 1871. The city of Riverside soon became the center of orange production in Southern California. Although Riverside still produces oranges, it has changed into the main city hub of the Inland Empire.
