Ritalin is a prescription stimulant used to treat ADD and ADHD. Methylphenidate stimulates the central nervous system causing a reduction of impulsive behavior and enabling concentration. Due to the stimulating properties Ritalin has become a drug of abuse by people that do not have prescriptions. Increasing controversy over the safety of Ritalin in long term use has also been raised.
