American actress Rita Hayworth rose to Hollywood stardom in the 1940s. She was born Margarita Carmen Cansino on October 17, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York. She began working on stage in a vaudeville act at the age of six and by sixteen was already an accomplished professional dancer. In the early 1930s she began to attract the attention of film producers and in 1935 was signed up by Fox Studios. Though she only began in small roles with Fox, in 1937 she signed with Columbia Studios and her movie career took off. She was considered to be one of the most beautiful actresses of her era and starred in many movies including The Money Trap, Charlie Chan in Egypt, Cover Girl, Blood and Sand and My Gal Sal.
