Leveling Up
In Rise of the Argonauts, players will be able to custom build a unique set of skills for Jason to use in combat, like a temporary boost in power or the ability to break through shields and armor. There are multiple sets of skills that correspond to a certain god or goddess - combat and warfare skills are received from Ares, for example. There are multiple ways to gain favor with the gods and earn experience with which to purchase new skills.
Deeds are specific accomplishments that Jason earns in battle. Rise of the Argonauts producers liken Deeds to Achievements, as you will dynamically unlock them through the course of combat and your adventures. All Deeds are recorded in a compendium, and you will get the choice of which god you want to dedicate your deeds to in order receive favor with those gods, which in turn unlocks abilities.
Another way of building up favor is through dialogue choices. During the course of a conversation in Rise of the Argonauts, you will be presented with a menu of responses, not unlike the one found in Mass Effect. Each dialogue option is tied to a god - the more violent and aggressive ones go with Ares, while the intelligent and wise choices are tied to Athena.Team Xbox: Rise of the Argonauts Deed System Video

- CUTSCENE: The camera pans over a sneak attack of bandits raiding a palace. They quietly slice through the nearby guards and prepare a batch of poison arrows. Jason of the argonauts is vowing his love to Alceme when one of the bandits strikes her in the heart with an arrow. Jason grabs a shield, grieves for a moment and then runs after the bandits in extreme anger.
- Move toward the bandit shooting the arrows and strafe from side to side with LS. Once Jason reaches the next room, he gains access to a spear. Use X and Y to dispatch the guards inside the room. X is a quick attack and Y is a strong attack.
- Move toward the training room. Use LS and A to select Jason's first conversation response. Jason can choose between the sword or another spear. If taking the sword, use X to unleash a flurry of quick attacks and press Y to slice the enemy in two.
- Move outside and to the left. Press A to leap over the balcony. Use the quick movement of the sword to kill the four soldiers. Use A to shield bash the enemy and follow up with quick attacks. Move into the next hallway and hit B to perform a rolling maneuver to escape enemy attacks.
- Run up the stairs and Jason will pick up the mace automatically. Hold down RT and press an attack button to perform a special attack with the glowing weapon. Move down the stairs on the opposite side of the hall and use the bumpers to alternate between weapons.
- Continue down the hallway and fight off the remaining soldiers. If you prefer to skip the battle, race to the end of teh hall and the cutscene automatically kicks on.
- CUTSCENE: The bandit that killed Jason's wife is finally caught and Jason confronts him. The bandit eeks out the phrase "The Black Tongue Rises again." before Jason kills him. Jason is seen later carrying his dead wife into a last rites chamber.
- Walk outside to speak with the large gentlemen in the middle of the courtyard. He tells Jason of a person in Delphi that may be able to help bring Alceme back to life. Speak with the noblewomen in the far left side of the courtyard to learn about Jason's duties.
- TIP: Notice the different conversation choices when speaking to the noblewomen? These are ways to gain favor with the gods. The red choice is for Ares, the god of battle and courage. The green choice is for Hermes, the god of cunning and trickery. The yellow choice is for Apollo, the god of healing and light. The blue choice is for Athena, the god of order and military strategy. Each conversation option will award Jason a certain number of points to be spent on new abilities.
- TIP: If you are having trouble locating any of the quest folks, press Start and look at the map. The red dot is Jason and the other dots are the quests. Use the directional pad to cycle through them.
- Move into the courtyard and speak with Photios. He wants Jason to deliver a message to Agatha about her late husband's love. Choose the red or blue conversation option to proceed. Speak with the noblemen about the reaction of Alceme's father. Choose between the yellow and blue conversation options.
- Speak with Elpis by the small pool and choose between the green and blue conversation options. Run outside and look for the pool of water in the final fighting scene to trigger a flashback about Alceme. Backtrack to the long path outside and move to the end to speak with the leader of the guard.
- The guard has information about the attack on the palace, a disturbance in the village and a private matter. It turns out that the Black Tongues are in league with the Ionians. The private matter has to do with choosing a new leader of the guard.
- Choosing a new leader is a matter of style. One guard is defensive, another offensive and the last is similar to the previous leader. It's a simple quest that doesn't have much bearing on the actual game. Take a trip outside and race down the hill to locate Pandora.
- Pandora will offer up four potential scenarios and attempt to read your fortune via the responses. It basically figures into the character build. There's also another flashback scene near the ferris wheel.
- Move through the cave on the right and take a left when entering the village. Look for the group causing the disturbance and confront the leader, Zenos. He wants tribute for the death of his brother, a shipload of wheat and 10 virgin girls each year. Choose the appropriate conversation based on the path you are choosing.
- TIP: If you are choosing to align with Ares, Zenos's mace is an excellent acquisition this early in the game.
- Take a trip to the right side of the village and speak with Elpis's parents. Exit the village towards the shipyard and look for the large stone gate along the path. Follow the trail to locate the witch fighting off a leftover Black Tongue. Defeat the three green monsters with the new mace and speak with the witch afterwards.
- Use a few words of compassion and Medea the witch will join the party on the ship. Grab the Ioian War Armor for a boost to Jason's health. Exit the stone room and move toward the shipyard. Speak with Agatha to deliver her husbands final wishes. She's near the second dock.
- Speak with Nestus to move to the boat. Speak with Argos to get a tour of the ship and set sail for Delphi.
