This is Part 16 of our complete Lord of the Rings Conquest Walkthrough, featuring Rise of Sauron The Razing of the Shire.
Conquest Campaign
The Lord of the Rings: Conquest features two campaigns in its single-player mode. One focuses on the Armies of the West and follows the major events of the Lord of the Rings films. During this campaign, players get the chance to control many of the major protagonists from The Lord of the Rings, including Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas. The other campaign focuses on the armies of Mordor in a hypothetical scenario in which The One Ring was never destroyed and Sauron never defeated. In this campaign, players can embody the evil wizard Saruman and even Sauron himself. The campaign mode can be played co-operatively with another person on a split screen and takes approximately ten hours to complete.GameSpot: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Impressions (July 15, 2008)-
Objective 1: Destroy Hobbiton
- Play this section as the Mage.
- An Ent stands just ahead of the starting point. Hit it with firewalls and lightning.
- Achievement: First thing's first, kill 300 Hobbits to earn "Stupid Hobbitses." Stay near the start of the level and kill the endless approaching Hobbits with lightning. Save your shockwaves for the occasional Ent or Gandorian Captain that comes your way. Keep an eye out for these tougher enemies while you slay the hobbits. This should take about ten minutes to complete.
- Now, move on to the objective of destroying the hobbit homes. There's no particular order that works best here, just run around to each location, using firewalls to torch each structure. It's best to avoid the Ents and Gandorian Captains you encounter along the way. Use lightning or shockwaves to clear out Hobbits as your firewalls are recharging.
- Destroy all six hobbit structures to complete the objective.
-
Objective 2: Kill Treebeard
- Choose The Balrog when asked if you'd like to play as a hero.
- Try to get around the regular Ents and Hobbits, instead heading straight for the yellow arrow pointing to Treebeard.
- When you reach Treebeard, perform combos to build up your special meter, such as X, X, Y, Y, B. Then, hold LT and press B to breathe deadly fire.
- Keep attacking Treebeard, depleting as much health from him as you can.
- If your character is killed, choose the Mage and finish off Treebeard with firewalls.
-
-
Objective 3: Kill 50 Hobbits to Lure out Gandalf
- This is a straightforward objective no matter whether you're The Balrog or a mage. Look for Hobbits and kill them while trying to avoid Ents and Gandorian Captains.
- Most of the Hobbits are located across the small footbridge that crosses a nearby stream. Before crossing, you may want to clear out the Ents on this side to free up your allies.
- On the other side, focus on the Gandorian Captains first. Hit them with firewalls and lightning. Once they're defeated, killing 50 hobbits should be easy.
-
-
Objective 4: Kill Gandalf
- This is the final objective in the game. Select Sauron when asked if you'd like to play as a hero.
- Warning: Be careful as you head over the bridge to fight Gandalf. Fell beasts occasionally swoop through, immediately killing you if you're in their way. Wait until one flies by before trying to cross.
- Before going across, though, you should lure the handful of Ents to come across to your side. Throw axes at them by pressing RT until they cross the bridge.
- Attack the Ents from behind to avoid getting damaged. Wait until they are attacking one of your allies before unleashing a combo.
- Once all three Ents are defeated, head across the bridge, but watch out for the fell beasts.
- The best way to approach Gandalf is to knock him down first with an axe. Stay close to him, but far enough away that you're not in range of his shockwaves or hand-to-hand attacks. Line up your shot by holding RT, then throw it at him when he's not using his shield.
- As soon as Gandalf falls, move in. Follow up with a combo, starting with X attacks, moving to Y and finishing by pounding the ground with B.
- Try to attack Gandalf so his back is to the cottages left of the bridge. If you can get him to fall back between the cottages and the stream, you won't have to deal with as many Hobbits in the main clearing.
- Keep hitting Gandalf with the strategy above. Sauron is only playable when the objective starts, and on your last two lives, so plan accordingly.
- Defeating Gandalf with Sauron gives you the "Lord of Mordor" Achievement, and beating this mission earns Land of the Shadow".
- Congratulations on beating Lord of the RIngs: Conquest.
