This is Part 14 of our complete Lord of the Rings Conquest Walkthrough, featuring Rise of Sauron The Assault on Weathertop.
Conquest Campaign
The Lord of the Rings: Conquest features two campaigns in its single-player mode. One focuses on the Armies of the West and follows the major events of the Lord of the Rings films. During this campaign, players get the chance to control many of the major protagonists from The Lord of the Rings, including Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas. The other campaign focuses on the armies of Mordor in a hypothetical scenario in which The One Ring was never destroyed and Sauron never defeated. In this campaign, players can embody the evil wizard Saruman and even Sauron himself. The campaign mode can be played co-operatively with another person on a split screen and takes approximately ten hours to complete.GameSpot: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Impressions (July 15, 2008)-
Objective 1: Destroy the Gondorian Emplacements
- YouTube: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest - Weathertop Mission (Time: 10:52)
- Start this level as the Mage. Really, though, it doesn't matter because you'll soon be playing as a Troll.
- A dormant Troll is located to your left -- it kind of looks like a giant rock pile. Approach it and press RB to take control.
- As the Troll, X and Y are weak and strong attacks, respectively. RT grabs opponents and A heals.
- Walk down the path to the two huts, but watch for incoming catapulted rocks from your right.
- A couple swings of your arms with Y should destroy each hut. If any enemy comes close, take them out with an X attack.
- Look for the small pathway that goes up through the rocky, raised area on the left. Use this route to reach the next embankment.
- Along the way, you'll meet several enemies. Keep them in front of you so they can't climb up your back, and keep swinging your arms with X. This should handle them with little trouble.
- If you get damaged, heal yourself by pressing A. If you perish as the Troll, you can always grab another one when you respawn.
- There's also an Ent to deal with along the way, but it's best to just run past him and head straight on to the next emplacement.
- Knock the nearby enemies out of the way first, then destroy this building with Y attacks.
- Head back down into the battlefield. Your next target is the catapult. Keep some distance from the nearby enemies and run around to the back of the catapult, so you're facing the enemies that are in the middle of the battlefield. Take the catapult down with Y attacks, then be sure to heal yourself if you've taken damage.
- Finally, go to the right side of the battlefield, where the last emplacement is located. As with previous huts, take out the soldiers first, then knock down the building.
Objective 3: Kill the Royal Guards
- Take command of Saruman when prompted. You'll need to kill roughly a half dozen Royal Guards scattered around the battlefield.
- The ones in the middle of the field are the trickiest, because they're guarded by Ents, and a fell beasts occasionally sweep through the area. Avoid standing in the dead center of the battlefield. Stay on the sides.
- Attack the Ents with firewalls. They are vulnerable to the flames and will burn easily. Then, go for the guards.
- The remaining guards are located around a large mountain. Again, your biggest concern here are the Ents, so burn them before worrying about the regular Gondorians. If you're surrounded, though, use a shockwave to clear the area.
- Keep working your way up the mountain, killing the Royal Guards as you go. Remember to heal often, as you'll need Saruman alive to get a bonus achievement in the next objective.
Objective 4: Kill Aragon
- Aragorn awaits at the top of the mountain. Make sure your health is full before heading up.
- When you get to the top, get his attention with a well-charged lightning bolt, then retreat down the mountain as he gives chase.
- Staying on this narrow pathway up the mountain, instead of heading into the arena, allows you to keep better tabs on Aragorn and the Gandorians that accompany him. First, take out his bodyguard with firewalls and shockwaves. Then, you can concentrate on the boss.
- Keep your distance from Aragorn while your firewall and shockwave attacks are charging. Otherwise, get close to him and unleash either one.
- These magic attacks knock Aragorn down, providing a small window of opportunity where you can close in and hit him with conventional X attacks. This only works when he is lying on the ground.
- Continue this pattern, healing yourself if he manages to execute an attack on you. Killing Aragorn with Saruman gives you the "The Way of Pain" Achievement, and you'll also get the "Battle of Weathertop" Achievement for completing the mission.
