Rinen is a small company based in Japan that presented its newest carbon footprint calculating project OpenTrace at the TechCrunch50 conference on September 8, 2008.CNET: Opentrace puts a number to product's greenness

Described as "sort of a wikipedia of the carbon footprint of everything," Rinen's OpenTrace calculates the environmental impact of various products. Starting on the ground level OpenTrace reports on the energy expended in producing consumer goods, from creating the components through the manufacturing process and transportation of the finished product.
