NHL Career
DiPietro was drafted first overall in the 2000 NHL draft by the New York Islanders. He joined them for his NHL debut that same year and split his first season between the Islanders and their International Hockey League affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. He then split the next three years between the NHL and the American Hockey League, where he played for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. After earning the Islanders' starting goaltender spot in 2005, DiPietro signed a 15-year contract worth $67.5 million on September 12, 2006.
