  • Richie Havens is a folk singer and guitarist. He emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 1960s and made a number of memorable performances, including Woodstock in 1969 and Bill Clinton's presidential inauguration in 1993. Havens also had major roles in the movies Catch My Soul in 1974 (based on Shakespeare's Othello) and Greased Lightning in 1977, in which he co-starred with Richard Pryor.

  • Early Career

    Havens signed with Verve Records in 1967 and quickly released his debut album Mixed Bag. This auspicious debut album included such successful songs as "Handsome Johnny", "Follow" and the version of Bob Dylan's song "Just Like A Woman". His next album, Something Else Again, became his first album to chart on the Billboard Top 30]]. By the end of the decade, he had began touring across the country, as well as tours of pop and folk festivals. Havens appeared as the opening act at the Woodstock Festival. His song "Freedom" came thanks to an improvisation based on the song "Motherless Child". At the end of the 1970s, Havens made memorable appearances on two legendary TV programs, "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson"
  • Musical Success

    Havens began 2000 with a lot of activity. He re-released the album Stormy Forest and began re-mastering his old recordings. He also returned to the legendary Glastonbury Festival which was considered by the BBC as the best time of the festival. In 2004, he released an album that he produced, Grace Of The Sun. Havens is currently appearing in the USA and the UK.
