Richard Petty crashed on lap 106 of the 1988 Daytona 500, the first NASCAR race to feature "restrictor plates" meant to reduce speeds. Petty's car was tapped by another car and launched into the wall, sending it into a series of barrel rolls. Petty was uninjured in the crash with the exception of temporary loss of sight caused by the excessive G-forces caused by the rolls.
