Philadelphia police officer Richard Decoatsworth was shot and wounded during a September 2007 traffic stop. Despite suffering a shotgun blast to his face, Decoatsworth managed to chase down the suspects and radio in a description of them before collapsing from his injuries. The 23-year-old Decoatsworth was invited by Vice President Joe Biden to attend President Barack Obama's first joint Congressional address on February 24, 2009. The Shooting
Philadelphia police officer Richard Decoatsworth graduated from the police academy in March 2007. Six months later, on September 24, 2007, the 21-year-old Decoatsworth was shot while pursuing a group of suspects after a traffic stop. 20-year-old Antonio Coulter was later arrested and charged with attempted murder. Prosecutors said Coulter shot Decoatsworth in the face with a sawed-off shotgun. Coulter was convicted and sentenced to up to 72 years in prison.
