Richard Cizik

Richard Cizik is a evangelical lobbyist and former vice president of government affairs of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE). He was asked to resign by NAE officials because of some of the statements he made on the NPR show, Fresh Air with Terry Gross. Cizik caused rumblings in the NAE after he stated that he voted for Barack Obama in the primaries, insinuated he voted for Obama in the general election and stated that he has a "shifting" opinion on gay civil unions. The Dallas Morning News: Jim Wallis comments on Richard Cizik's resignation from NAE (December 12, 2008)

Quotes

"Yes. I sleep better at night. I slept better at night during the recent war in Iraq, knowing that George Bush is in the White House."PBS: Interview with Richard Cizik—Richard Cizik

"Well, the secularist believes that we're undoing the American experiment -- that we are trampling upon the separation of church and state. The secularist wants to relegate religious belief to the margins of public life. The evangelical, with his pietistic influence, says, "Absolutely not. I'm going to bring those religious values right into the center of all of life, including politics."PBS: Interview with Richard Cizik—Richard Cizik
