  • Rhinitis is an inflammation of the lining of the nose and throat. Some common causes are dust, pollen and dander. The inflammation can cause a variety of symptoms such as post nasal drip, sneezing, itching, nasal congestion and runny nose.

Brief rhinitis can be caused by respiratory tract infections with viruses like the common cold. Another cause for rhinitis can be smoke, pollution, exhaust fumes, paint fumes and fragrances.

Relief can depend on identifying the triggers causing rhinitis. Treatment for rhinitis will depend on how much it bothers you and how bad it is. Rinsing your nasal passages with a saline solution can help keep them free of irritants. Determining and avoiding the cause is an important step in prevention.
