The news agency Reuters was created in 1851 as a stock market information service by the German Paul Julius Reuter. Reuter used telegraphy and pigeons to send messages.The company expanded into an international news agency after Reuter moved to London. It was the world's largest international news agency when it was purchased by the company Thomson in 2008, creating Thomson Reuters. Reuters' news services will continue under the division Reuters Media.
