The First Review

The first review of Resident Evil 5 was released on February 2, 2009. Published in PlayStation The Official Magazine, the review awarded Resident Evil 5 a perfect score of 5/5. The review praised the game's varied level design and the depth of its co-operative mode. It likened the experience to "playing an Indiana Jones movie. And not the crappy ones."Voodoo Extreme: Resident Evil 5 Review (February 2, 2009)

Co-Op

Resident Evil 5 features two co-op modes, one for online multiplayer and one for local. In the game, protagonist Chris Redfield has a partner named Sheva who is by his side at most times, assisting him. In the co-operative mode, your partner takes the role of Sheva.

During the single-player mode, Sheva is controlled by the computer and will continually assist Chris and require his help in turn. When you're grabbed by a zombie from behind and have to wiggle the joystick to get it off, Sheva can shoot or kick it off for you. Similarly, when Sheva is in need of help, you can walk up to her and press B or Circle to assist her.

You can also heal Sheva, pass her ammo, have her pick up money, and occasionally split up to get the strategic advantage on the enemy. For example, help Sheva climb to the top of a building so she can shoot enemies while you fight them on the ground. If either you or Sheva die, it's game over. However, that only applies to instant deaths, and for non-fatal attacks that leave you or Sheva on the ground stunned, either can walk up to their partner and quickly revive him or her.

Controls

Resident Evil 5 has a variety of control schemes to fit player preferences. The default control scheme is relatively similar to the controls found in Gears of War 2, with the left stick controlling forward and backward movement and strafing to the left and right. Holding the Left Trigger (or L2) puts the screen into aiming mode, in which Right Stick moves a reticule and Right Trigger fires your weapon. Holding Left Bumper (or L1) equips the knife, which is swiped with Right Trigger. There is also a more traditional Resident Evil 4 scheme where holding L brings up aiming and then you fire by pressing the X button, and the Left Stick movement is "tank" like.
