The Comedy Central mockumentary series Reno 911! is a parody of the popular reality series Cops, following the fictional adventures of the inept men and women of the Reno, Nevada Sheriff's Department. As with the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm and the films of Christopher Guest, episodes of Reno are written in outline form, and the dialogue is then improvised by the actors. In 2007, the series inspired a feature film, Reno 911!: Miami.
Cast
Many of the series' regulars and guest stars have a background in improv and sketch comedy. Stars and co-creators Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver and frequent director Michael Patrick Jann are all veterans of comedy troupe The State, which had an MTV sketch comedy series in the '90s. Wendi McLendon-Covey is a member of the comedy troupe The Groundlings, and frequent guest star Paul Reubens (who also appears in the film) is a former Groundling.
