But it wasn't until her breakthrough role in the hit Tom Cruise vehicle Jerry Maguire did she establish herself as one of the premiere leading ladies in Hollywood. That success led to other Box office hits such as Me, Myself & Irene starring Jim Carrey and her Academy Award nominated performance in Bridget Jones's Diary where she reportedly gained twenty pounds to play the title character.

    Her ever rising box office appeal would open up the door to many more challenging, and critically acclaimed performances such as her memorable turn as Roxie Hart in the Best Picture Oscar winner Chicago, and her Academy Award winning performance as Ruby Thewes in Cold Mountain co-starring Nicole Kidman and Jude Law.

    In 2008 she appears in Leatherheads starring George Clooney and Appaloosa starring Viggo Mortensen.
