Canadian professional hockey player Rene Bourque currently plays for the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League.
Career Highlights
Prior to his NHL career, Bourque attended and played for the University of Wisconsin. Following graduation he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2004. He spent the next season with the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League, during the NHL Lockout. He earned several honors in the AHL including being named to the All-Rookie Team and receiving the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL Rookie of the Year. Bourque made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks in 2006, playing 77 regular season games. His 2006-07 season was cut short after his neck was lacerated by a skate blade. He recovered from the potentially life threatening injury after missing only 13 games.
