Reginae Carter

On August 10, 2008, several online celebrity gossip blogs began reporting that Reginae Carter, the eight-year-old daughter of rapper Lil Wayne, had died in a car accident. Fans posted messages of hope and comfort on Lil Wayne's MySpace page but the rumors have not been confirmed. On the afternoon of August 11, 2008, an anonymous message was posted on Lil Wayne's MySpace page from someone claiming to be Reginae Carter's aunt, saying a report that Carter had been killed was "false." Reports said Lil Wayne's record label, Universal Motown, had given a statement to a hip-hop website, denying the story.

Later on August 11, Lil Wayne issued a statement, denying that his daughter had been killed, calling the rumors "false" and "unfounded." The rapper said the child was "alive, healthy and surrounded by family who care and love her dearly."

"Please allow me to dispel any rumors or speculations and report that my daughter is alive, healthy and surrounded by family who care and love her dearly. The rumors are completely false and unfounded; neither Reginae nor any other member of my family has been involved in any car accident. My family and I truly appreciate the concern and support shown to us."—Lil Wayne

"I am pleased to inform you that this report is false. It is merely a rumor started by someone who obviously is miserable in their own skin that they would even have the notion to attack a child.
