Refried Beans

  • Refried Beans are a typical Mexican dish, made with black or Pinto beans, cooked and mashed with onion, garlic and spices, garnished with grated cheese and served as a side with most Mexican dishes.

    Directions

    1. Bring beans to a boil in a saucepan
    2. Strain liquid
    3. Put mash beans, you can use an electricblender
    4. Fold in onion, butter and salt
    5. Return mixture to saucepan on low heat, stir until heated thoroughly
    6. Stir in grated cheddar cheese

    Note: This along with green chilis, cheese and salsa makes a great filling for burritos.

  • Did You Know?

    The word "refried" has been mistranslated as "fried again", when the Spanish word "refrito" is used as a prefix "re-" it is meant to add emphasis to a word in the Spanish dialect. Refried beans are only fried once, the term refrito is actually stating that the beans have been over fried.
