Red wine is an alcoholic beverage made from grapes. Since the skin of a grape gives a wine its color, red wine is made by leaving the skin of the grapes on while the wine is being made.NutritionData: Alcoholic beverage, wine, table, red The San Angelo Standard-Times: Color Says a Lot About Wine Quality
Varietals
The grapes used determine which type, or variety, of red wine is being made. To be labeled as a varietal (a wine made from a specific grape, like pinot noir), a red wine must meet certain requirements. Varietals that are made in the United States, New Zealand, Australia or South America must be comprised of at least 75% of the named grape. Red wines made in Europe must contain 85%.Tasting Wine: Red Wines
