Red Vines

Red Vines are a type of corn syrup-based licorice twist candy that come in a variety of flavors and sizes. Red Vines Original Twists are sometimes referred to as red licorice. However, there is no actual licorice used in the process of making them. They do not have the deep, pungent flavor of black licorice, but rather have a sweet, fruity taste.

When Red Vines were first introduced in 1952, they came in only in raspberry flavor. The formula was altered into the Original Red version. Red Vines products contain no fat, are made without the use of preservatives, and are low sodium. Red Vines is owned by the American Licorice Company, which also owns such brands as Super Ropes, Sour Punch and Snaps. American Licorice got its start in 1914, and is thus approaching its 100th year in business.

Red Vines are often compared to Twizzlers, however, the two candies are somewhat different. Red Vines are thicker and chewier with a sweeter taste. Red Vines also more closely resemble real licorice than Twizzlers.
