  • The Red River Rivalry is an annual college football game between Big 12 Conference rivals the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners. Dating back to 1900, it is considered one of the great rivalries in college football. Texas upset Oklahoma at the 2008 Red River Rivalry game with a score of 45 to 35.

    In the 2009 game, the #3 Texas Longhorns defeated the #20 Oklahoma Sooners 16-13 on October 17.

    The top ranked Oklahoma Sooners faced the fifth ranked Texas Longhorns on October 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. CST. Both teams entered with a five game unbeaten streak in the 2008 season. Analysts at FOX Sports suggest that the winner of this game, Texas, will win the Big 12 Championship and more than likely play in the BCS Championship Game on January 8, 2009, in Miami, Florida.

    In 1912, Dallas was chosen to host the Red River Rivalry because of its central location, halfway between the respective campuses in Austin, Texas, and Norman, Oklahoma. Since 1929, the game has been held at the Cotton Bowl Stadium during the first weekend of October.
