Red Faction Guerrilla Ostrich Hammer

Initially believed to be an April Fools' Day joke, Red Faction Guerrilla developer has confirmed that the Ostrich Hammer weapon is indeed real and will be an unlockable weapon in the game's multiplayer mode.

In February of 2008, leaked images of the pre-alpha version of Red Faction: Guerrilla made their way onto the forums at NeoGaf. One of the screenshots featured a soldier wielding a hammer whose shape resembled a bird's head and neck. For April Fools' Day, developer Volition released a "dev diary" video discussing a new weapon called the Ostrich Hammer. In the video, a Volition employee said, "The internet has spoken. They want our game to have more ostrich, and we're gonna give it to 'em." Reactions were so positive that it was decided to make the weapon a reality. A post on the official developer blog stated: "We had no idea the reaction to the video would be so positive and that gamers would really like to kill someone with a very large bird." The Ostrich Hammer will be an unlockable weapon in the game's multiplayer mode.
