Natalie Cole, Herbie Hancock and Sean Combs presented the award for Record of the Year to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss for their song "Please Read the Letter" at the 2009 Grammy Awards. Other nominees were Adele for "Chasing Pavement," Coldplay for "Viva la Vida," Leona Lewis for "Bleeding Love" and M.I.A. for "Paper Planes."
The Record of the Year Grammy award recognizes one song on an album or a single. The award goes to the artist, producer and engineer of the song. Unlike Song of the Year, which goes to the songwriter, the Record of the Year Grammy recognizes achievement in the actual production of the song.
