- 1871: Team Founded
- 1895: Became a professional team
- 1920: Elected to the Third Division of the Football League
- 1926-27: Recorded their best FA cup performance reaching the semi-finals
- 1986: Were promoted to the Second Division only to be relegated in back to the third division in 1988
- 1994: Crowned champions of the new Division Two which earned them promotion to Division one
- 1998: Finished last in Division one and were relegated back to Division two
- 2002: Made it back to Division One after finishing runners-up in Division Two
- 2006: Won promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history
