Ray Rice is a professional football player from New Rochelle, New York. Rice's early life is a tragic story. Ray Rice played his high school football at New Rochelle High School in New York. In 2003, his junior year, Rice helped NRHS to the New York State Championship, and again took them to the finals in 2004. His standout play led him to be invited to the Heisman Trophy breakfast, one of the few prospects given than honour.
After first committing to Syracuse University, and then backing out due to a coaching change, Rice elected to play college football for Rutgers. It was a turning point for Rutgers football, and Rice led them, starting as a true freshman. After rushing for 1,120 yards and 5 TD, the Scarlet Knights recorded their first winning season in 14 years. The next year, 2006, Rice rushed for 1,794 yards, with 20 TDs, and led Rutgers to 11 wins, tying a school record. He then rushed for 170 yards and 1 TD in the Texas Bowl, leading Rutgers to it's first ever bowl win. His junior year saw him increase those numbers yet again. In 2007, he rushed for 2012 yards, 24 TDs, and added receiving to his skills by catching 25 passes.
He declared for the 2008 NFL Draft on January 8, 2008http://www.scarletknights.com/football/news/release.asp?prID=6023, and was drafted in the 2nd round, 55th overall by the Baltimore Ravens.
Ray Rice 2009 Season
After showing some impressive potential in his rookie season, and excelling in training camp and the pre-season, Ray Rice was designated as the starting back for the Baltimore Raves. In his first year as a pro starter, Rice rushed for 1,339 yards, and seven touchdowns. He also caught 78 passes for 708 yards. He helped the Ravens defeat the New England Patriots, in the Ravens' wildcard playoff game, by taking the first play from scrimmage 83 yards for a touchdown. Ray Rice 2008 Season
Rice began his first year in the NFL sharing running duties with feature back Willis McGahee, and Le'Ron McClain. He finished the year with 454 rushing yards, and another 273 receiving yards. He also returned kick, averaging 23 yards per return. Rice looked dangerous at times, and impressed many people, especially after a 154 yard performance against the Cleveland Browns.
