Playing Career
Selected by the Packers in the third round of the 1958 NFL draft, Ray Nitschke went on to become a full-time starter under the coaching of Vince Lombardi in 1962. As a full time starter, Nitscheke was named the most valuable player in the 1962 NFL Championship Game. Dubbed as the "the core of the Packers," Nitscheke was voted, by fellow linebackers in the NFL during the 1960s, as the most complete player in his position. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1978.
