Edwards began his career playing college football with the Purdue Boilermakers Football in 2003. He was selected 127th overall in the 2006 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Edwards made his professional debut that same year, playing in 15 games and recording 10 tackles. In 2007, Edwards was limited to only 12 games and 30 tackles, after he was suspended for four games in December in violation of the league's substance abuse policy.
