    Originally drafted by the Mariners, Ibanez developed into a power hitter during his stay with the Kansas City Royals from 2001 to 2004. He returned to the Mariners as a free agent in 2004, and promptly was inserted as the Designated Hitter. He has since returned to playing left field, and is regarded as one of the most respected hitters in the Mariners lineup. In 2008, Ibanez signed a three year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

  • Pro Career

    Ibanez was selected in the 36th round of the 1992 MLB draft by the Seattle Mariners. He made his Major League debut on June 24, 1998. Ibanez played catcher and outfielder in his first season. In 2001, he signed with the Kansas City Royals as a free agent. He played three seasons with the Royals where he developed into a power hitter and an everyday outfielder. In 2003, he returned to the Seattle Mariners as a coveted free agent.
