On March 24, 2008, Andrew Bacas was bitten by a rattlesnake that had made its way into his luggage while on a trip to Summerton, South Carolina. The high school rowing coach called 911 after receiving the bite from the juvenile canebrake rattlesnake and was treated at the hospital. His life was never in danger, and the snake was later killed by the Fire Department.
