Football Career
Prior to playing in the NFL, Mathis played for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, a Division I-AA team in the NCAA. He recorded 200 tackles and 31 interceptions over four seasons, setting a league record for career interceptions. He joined the Jaguars in 2003 for his professional debut, playing in all 16 regular season games. Mathis continued as a starter for the Jaguars in the year since, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2006.
