He is one of the most commonly featured adult characters in the series and made his first appearance in episode three of season one, entitled "Volcano." Like many of the adult characters on the show, Randy Marsh is weak-willed and likely to getting caught up with trends and mass hysteria. He is prone to dramatics and emotional outbursts, which are often fueled by his sometimes excessive beer drinking. Although his efforts are usually misguided and often lead to trouble, Randy Marsh genuinely cares about his family and usually ends up doing the right thing in the end.
  • Family

Randy Marsh has two children: He is the father of one of the show’s main characters, Stan Marsh and Stan's older sister, Shelly. Randy is married to Sharon Marsh, who he either met while playing truth or dare as a child or at Woodstock. For the most part, Randy and Sharon Marsh have a happy marriage, although they did divorce for a brief period, they remarried shortly after.

Randy Marsh has a half brother named Jimbo Kearn who produces a hunting show on South Park cable television. His suicidal, 102 year old father, Marvin "Grampa" Marsh is a World War II veteran.

  • Career

Randy Marsh is a geologist employed by the United States Geological Survey. He is apparently one of, if not the only scientist in South Park and gets called upon by the townspeople to solve any scientific problem. He was awarded, later stripped and then returned the Nobel Prize for his theories on spontaneous combustion, global warming and farting in moderation.

Randy Marsh worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart when the store opened up a location in the town. Unable to resist the incredible bargains, Randy Marsh was brainwashed by the store and unable to leave until it was destroyed.

As a teenager, Randy Marsh was a member of the boy band "The Ghetto Avenue Boys." He quit high school to pursue his dream of being a pop star, but was told, at age 19, that he was too old for a boy band and subsequently forced to return all the money and possessions he had acquired while with the band.
