UFC Resignation
Randy Couture left the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on October 11, 2007. In doing this, Couture left two contracted fights, his on-air analyst position, and his heavyweight championship. While this was not a retirement, Couture cited contractual disputes regarding payment for previous fights he had been involved with. Couture learned that he was not one of the highest paid fighters in UFC, despite his popularity and success. UFC president Dana White stated that Couture was still their heavyweight champion and was required to honor the remaining time on his contract. A lawsuit was filed by Zuffa against Couture on January 15, 2008.ESPN.com: 'Disenchanted' Couture resigns from UFC (October 11, 2007)
