Rancid is a popular and influential punk and ska band led by punk rock pioneer Tim Armstrong. Along with bands such as Bad Religion and Green Day, they are often credited with helping to reignite interest in punk music with mainstream audiences in the early 1990s. After Armstrong and bassist Matt Freeman left the seminal ska/punk band Operation Ivy, the two came together to form Rancid. Since forming, the band has released a number of acclaimed albums and has slowly developed a dedicated following.
