Ramon Hernandez is a catcher for the Cincinnati Reds. A native of Venezuela, the Oakland Athletics signed Hernandez as an amateur free agent in 1994. Hernandez made his major league debut for the Athletics in 1999. Hernandez's best season as a member of the Athletics came in 2003, as he hit .273, with 21 home runs, 78 RBI, and was named an All-Star. The next season he was traded, along with outfielder Terrance Long, to the San Diego Padres for Mark Kotsay. After two seasons in San Diego, Hernandez signed a free agent contract to play for the Orioles. He was traded to the Reds prior to the 2009 season.
Strengths
Above average defense behind the plate. Hernandez also hits for power, and drives in runs[1].
Weaknesses
Not as much of an asset on defense as he is offensively, Hernendez can struggle to throw out potential base stealers[1].
