  • Ramada Worldwide is a hotel brand founded in 1954 by Marion W. Isbell. The first Ramada property was built in Flagstaff, Arizona, along Route 66. The name 'Ramada' came from the Spanish word meaning "a shaded resting place".
  • The Early Years

    Ramada established headquarters Phoenix, Arizona. The concept of developing a chain of moderately priced motor hotels, situated near major U.S. highways came to Marion Isbell during a cross country trip with his wife and their three children.
  • Reorganization

    In 1989 Ramada Inc. reorganized the company. The hotels and restaurants were sold to New World Development Company. The gaming division was spun off into a new company, called the Aztar Corporation.
  • Wyndham Worldwide

    The purchase of Ramada International from Marriott in 2004, gave Cendant the trademark rights to the Ramada name all over the world. Cendant rolled over all of their hospitality division to form Wyndham Worldwide in 2006.
