  • RAM, or Random Access Memory, is a temporary storage medium in which a computer uses to constantly cycle information to and from the computer user. Commonly, it is known as "computer memory". The opposite of RAM is serial access memory or SAM. The reason it is called "Random Access Memory" is because any memory cell can be accessed if you know the row and column that intersect at that cell.

When working on graphics-intense or gaming on the computer, the more RAM you have, the better your computer will run and the faster it can process information. For a computer that runs too slow, adding additional RAM may correct the problem.
