One of Major League Baseball's greatest home run hitters after WWII, Ralph Kiner's career was cut short due to an injury causing severe back pain. He was able to put up effective enough numbers to gain entry into the Baseball Hall of Fame, inducted in 1975. Later, he successfully transitioned to a broadcast career with the New York Mets, and has had an association with the club ever since.
