Rajon Rondo is a professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association. On October 15, 2008, it was reported that the Celtics would pick up the $2.09 million option for the 2009-2010 season of Rondo's contract. Rondo will be a free agent at the start of the 2010-2011 NBA season.http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3644395
Rondo was set to play for Team USA Basketball again in 2010 during the world championships and remained on the roster through several rounds of cuts. However, he sat out during the final exhibition game by the coach's decision. Rondo took the move to mean that he may be the final player cut from the team and decided to voluntarily withdraw on his own. In an interview, he said "I think I'm on the bubble. Just looking at the obvious - I got a DNP (did not play) last game. That pretty much speaks for itself."http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/olybb/news/story?id=5493184
Prior to withdrawing from the team, Rondo, who was originally the starting point guard on the team, had become the third string point guard after Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook. The team chairman, Jerry Colangelo, said that Rondo withdrew to "take care of some family matters...before the NBA season".http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/olybb/news/story?id=5493184 He had left the team to attend the funeral of his uncle earlier in the month, but returned almost immediately.http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2010/08/25/rondo_leaves_team_usa_camp/
