Ragnarok Online is a fantasy massive multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG), developed and published by the Korean company Gravity Interactive. The game is played via Windows desktop client. The game was available only in a pay-to-play format for years but is now also offered for free.  Free players only receive 100 percent experience points while paid subscribers receive 125 percent for killing monsters or completing quests. In the free edition, death penalties are increased for players who die and some items cost more. It has been 100 years in the world of Midgard since gods, humans and demons were at war. Gods and demons show their displeasure through earthquakes, tidal waves and wild animal attacks. The gods and demons have become angered by the vain and greediness of humanity. Prophecies of a second war have spread through Midgard along with stories of mysterious objects called Ymirs. Gameplay in Ragnarok Online is largely based on Norse mythology with some references to other cultures. Players can accept quests, kill creatures and participate in game moderator run events. Ragnarok Online features an ongoing combat event called the War of Emperium. In this event, players from one guild battle players from another guild for control over castles that house dungeons and treasures that are not accessible to non-guild members. Money is earned by selling items dropped by killed creatures.
