  • NHL Career

    Vrbata was drafted 212th overall in the 1999 NHL draft by the Colorado Avalanche. He continued to play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for two seasons after the draft. Vrbata made his NHL debut with the Avalanche in 2001 and split his first season between the Avalanche and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears. On March 11, 2003, Vrbata was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. He returned to the Czech Republic during the 2004-05 NHL Lockout, then was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on December 29, 2005. Vrbata played nearly two seasons in Chicago before he was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes on August 11, 2007.
