A radar detector is a device used in vehicles to detect whether or not the vehicle's speed is being monitored by a radar unit. History: The Fuzzbuster invented by Dale Smith in the early 1970's was the first Radar Detector. The first radar detectors were not very reliable. Modern day radar detectors work by detecting signals across a variety of wavelength bands. The need to develop new and improve radar detectors grows with passing time. When police step up and improve their technology radar detectors do the same. The market for state of the art radar detectors keeps building with constant technological improvements. Laws: Certain laws were placed so that Radar Detectors did not completely prevent speeding tickets. Radar detectors are completely illegal in the Virgina state, Washington D.C. and on all Military bases in the US. It is also illegal to have a radar detector in any commercial vehicle weighing over 10,000 pounds. The sale of any radar detector that 'scrambles' or 'absorbs' radars in the United States. In Canada only certain providences are allow the use of radar detectors: Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
