R-Type Command, also known as R-Type Tactics is a tactical shooter video game made by Japanese developer Irem. Irem is mainly noted for the R-Type series of video games, which have seen many incarnations on various systems including the NES, SNES, and the PS2.

Story
The game is set in outer space, where you take control of Earth's forces in an attempt to destroy the Bydo alien race. -
Gameplay
Unlike other entries in the R-Type shooter series, R-Type Command is more of a turn-based strategy game, somewhat similar to Advance Wars. In the game you take control of various fighter ships, placing them on the playing field grid at different strategic points. Each unit has different strengths, weaknesses and special abilities, and has a limited area of mobility. You must gain abilities to upgrade units and purchase new units for the players army. There are numerous support units that range from force units to large carrier ships. R-Type Command has one hundred plus units with many of the R9 fighters from other R-Type games. -
